October 22, 2009 Rocas Alijos Seamount
There's always a bit of nervous anticipation when traveling so far to such a tiny speck on the map. To believe that 24 of us are headed to such a remote locale would seem ridiculous to most...but not to us!
We arrived on scene to a beautiful cobalt sea with mild swells and barely a puff of wind. The remnant swell from Hurricane Rick reminded us of what had been to our south but overall we were ready to rumble.
Today, as has been our experience over the past 3 years, the water was gin clear with at least 150 foot visibility! Diving to 50 feet seemed like nothing as we searched for the elusive tuna fish.
The morning was slow for our spearos yet exciting...I mean it's hard not to be excited even when the spearing is slow. This place is awesome! The afternoon was a different story, game on...yeah baby!
We got ourselves in on a spire pinnacle that for scuba is truly dynamite and for spearing is other worldly when the conditions are right. Today, they were right! Huge schools of yellowfin tuna flowed past, wahoo were seen and capture, amberjack, yellowtail...it was all there!
The weather report looks good so we are here to stay baby!

October 21, 2009 Islas San Benito and Traveling South
Today was a much better day at San Benito as the water improved and large schools of yellowtail arrived on scene. Our spearos had much success with some large yellows arriving aboard Horizon.
As the lunch bell rang we retrieved the divers, extracted our rubber duckies from the sea and headed south with Rocas Alijos on our minds.
The guys, ever the fishermen at heart, dropped back lures into our churning wake and as the sun dropped below the horizon cries from the back deck alerted me to a strike. Three actually as two dorado and one wahoo were brought aboard.
Tomorrow we arrive at Rocas Alijos...

Where'd our nice weather go? Yuk!!!
20 knot winds and green water are plaguing us today as our spearos are making the best of it. They captured a few yellowtail today while not seeing a whole bunch due to the water conditions.
Due to the hurricane we are going to spend the night here and then head south tomorrow at noon. It looks as though the hurricane is making its way ashore so we should be good to go!

October 18 - 19, 2009 Enroute to Islas San Benito
We departed yesterday afternoon as Hurricane Rick churned up the Pacific side of Baja. It looks as though the path is going to bend into the east taking it into the peninsula just north of Cabo San Lucas. We will hope for the best on the that as our home base is keeping us updated on it's progress.
Today was a not so bad day of fishing with a fair number of yellowfin tuna making it over our rail and into our bellies. Sashimi anyone? The weather has been fantastic with 5 knots of wind today and calm conditions. We should be at San Benito early in the morning and will have a log in tomorrow night.
