Thank You California Anglers, Your Voice Was Heard!

The California passenger sportfishing boat fleet owes a special thanks to the angling community.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) proposed engine regulations that would have removed nearly every vessel from the water. Those that could afford to comply would have been required to triple their prices to stay in business.

This LOSE, LOSE scenario was averted, thanks to anglers. Over 23,000 anglers signed a petition to “SAVE OUR BOATS,” and in fact, they did just that!

The new plan recognizes the emissions reductions the fleet has already invested in and proposes a compliance schedule that is more achievable -- requiring boats to repower to lower emission engines as the technology becomes available and it is economically feasible, and safe.

While sportfishing boats have averted immediate disaster, the State still needs to fulfill its obligation to make sure engine replacement programs are fully funded to avert large ticket price increases. So, please click below to find your State Representatives and ask them to support keeping ocean access available to all Californian’s by making sure the State budget provides full funding to support the agreement with CARB for licensed Commercial Passenger Fishing Vessels to install lower emission engines.

A San Diego Tribune column entitled “San Diego’s ‘heart-stopping’ sportfishing fight reaches stunning, satisfying conclusion” really captures the significance of this big win for California anglers. It is a must read! Click here to read the article!

Once again, the Sportfishing Association of California and the Golden Gate Fishermen’s Association would like to extend a special thanks. Now, LETS GO FISHING!
