Near-Limits For Excel
9-29-2009
Bill Roecker
A Let's Talk Hookup charter with 22 anglers aboard the Excel returned September 29 to Fisherman's Landing in the pre-dawn hour. Skipper Justin Fleck docked the boat and weighed the best of his catch.
"We had near-limits all around," he remarked, "and some good dorado fishing, too."
Marvin Keller of LA had the best fish, a 119-pound yellowfin that won honorable mention. He posed with the fish in the jackpot lineup.
Rey Kappel of Mission Hills won first place for an 81-pound tuna. He said he got it with a sardine on a 7/0 Eagle Claw hook tied to 80-pound Big Game line. He used 130-pound Line One Spectra backing on an Accurate 50 reel and a Loomis six-foot rod.
Al Agrimonti of Illinois Park, IL won second place for a 54.7-pounder, and Bob Cunvong of Bellflower won third place for a 54.3-pound yellowfin tuna.
