Fish Report for 3-2-2022
NDOW Southern Fishing Report
3-2-2022
Nevada Department of Wildlife
Trout in the 10- to 12-inch class have been taking Rooster Tails and PowerBait. Tiger trout will be stocked once the ice is fully off the reservoir. Ice is still thick but starting to thaw. Check conditions before heading out too far or gathering in a large group. The campground and facilities are open.
Daytime temperatures are in the 60s, but the area will see some weather this weekend. The water is open, but fishing activity has been slow. Trout are taking PowerBait, spinners and nymphs. The campgrounds and all facilities are open.
Anglers are reporting striper catches all over the lake, with fish averaging 20 inches long. According to reports the bite is consistent in the early morning but slows before noon. Live and imitation shad are fooling the fish. Black bass are hitting Chatterbaits and Glide Baits. Crappie fishing has been slow, but a few anglers have caught a few in the Lovers Cove area.
Rainbow trout are quick to bite on gold spinners and rainbow PowerBait at Willow Beach. Anglers are catching 3- to 5-pound trout from shore and kayaks. Few reports have come from Cottonwood Basin due to unpredictable winds. However, a few bass have been caught with swimbaits thrown into shadows near vegetation. On the east side of the lake, anglers are finding smallmouth bass biting around Black Sheep Cove.
The river is active with rainbow trout, channel catfish, and stripers. Trout are hitting gold spinners with red polka dots, but PowerBait is always a good option. Anglers are reporting catfish taking anchovies fished off the bottom about 100 feet from shore. The striper bite is slow, but some shore anglers have had luck using Glide Baits below Davis Dam. Near the Big Bend of the Colorado River State Recreation Area, largemouth bass are hitting on watermelon and pumpkin-colored plastics near vegetation.
The reservoirs are mostly ice-free, except in the morning. The most open water can be found along the dams. Rainbow trout are nice and healthy. Action will continue to pick up as water temperatures increase.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked rainbow trout at Lorenzi, Floyd Lamb, Sunset, and Hafen Parks last week. Anglers have caught a few catfish on night crawlers and chicken livers before sunset. Gold spinners, Kastmasters, and worms are working best for enticing trout.
