TROUT
BROWN TROUT LAKE RECORD MATCHED. The last few weeks on New Melones there has been a trout/brown trout fest with numerous limits coming in. With the trout scattered up and down the lake Kayak angler Bobby Aperoch was targeting Crappie at Glory Hole Point when his bait was munched by something that was giving him a tow around the lake. Bobby had his hands full but managed to land and tied the New Melones lake record for Brown trout at 13.40 lbs. This wonderful fish had a girth of 18 1/2". Congratulations Bobby. Angler have been targeting Browns from 50 ft. down to 140 ft. Rainbow trout can be landed from shore, trolling or soaking bait, down to 20 ft. or so.
Below is Nick and James of Angels Camp with a limit.
KOKANEE
None Reported.
BASS
Bass bite has been around the board on New Melones, some days quantity is what anglers are getting and other days the bite has shut off for them. Some days present opportunities for a different presentations depending on wind, water clarity, water temp. When the bite is on it seems a shakey head has been consistent and a jig/keitech setup will bring on a strong bite. What is consistent is the size most are in the 2-3.5 lb. range.
CATFISH
No Reports
CRAPPIE
Not much news on the Crappie bite, one here and there scattered about the lake.
Other News
The Bureau of Reclamation Administration Office is open and selling annual passes for the lake (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat & Sun. only) Museum remains closed, due to lack of help.
