Fish Report for 11-21-2021

Late fall King salmon are special! Some of the biggest and brightest salmon caught all year are caught in November and December. Its a smaller run than our summer fish, but quality over quantity is the name of this game. We'll fish all day for a bite or two, but when one of these beauties makes it to the net, the hard work is all worthwhile.

Late fall salmon fishing ends January 1st!

Good morning fishing fans!  The Sacramento River late fall salmon run has been off to a slow start, but more and more salmon are being caught since this past week.  The next month should show the biggest increase in the salmon action before the river closes to salmon fishing for the year (Jan 1st above Red Bluff).  The Sacramento River flows have bottomed out at 3,250 cfs and the water temps are down to 55 degrees as of yesterday.  The water color has dramatically improved this past week and the areas we are fishing look really good!  More good news is that the salmon we are catching are really bright and the fillets are beautiful!  All of the salmon we are catching are in really good shape and will make for some great holiday season meals for family and friends.  If conditions remain as they are now, we will have a productive late fall salmon season.  As a bonus to the salmon fishing, we're seeing some nice steelhead as well.  A few of our trips last week included some dedicated steelhead fishing and we saw some beautiful 5-7 lb. steelhead make it to the net, with some being of hatchery origin.  Two hatchery steelhead can be targeted and retained by anglers with a steelhead report card.  Steelhead report cards are important this time of the year for those who wish to fish for and take some of their hatchery steelhead home.  As a 3rd bonus catch, we've also caught some Smallmouth and Spotted bass in the river as well.  Trolling or casting crankbaits in the slow water sections of the river can often times be very productive this time of the year.  We're in for another exciting late fall season on the Sacramento River and we have some available dates in December!  Give Jaynie a call at (530) 510-2925 and she'll answer any additional questions and provide some available dates for salmon/steelhead fishing in December.  Thank you!
