Fall River continues to be a great place for a day of sight fishing. The weather this week looks pretty cold and a bit snowy, bring layers and emergency snow equipment just in case. The fish may start to get slightly sluggish now that overnight temperatures are getting down to the 20s. Blue wing olive hatches have been decent out there, they’ve mostly been happening right around midday. Midge hatches are difficult to predict but they’re usually before or after the BWOs. Definitely nymph with baetis patterns before or during the hatch, a size 18 - 20 should fool a few. As mentioned last week, the fish on the fall river see zebra midges constantly. Fish are curious and they like to bite on unfamiliar flies, try out a disco or biot midge and see what happens. Now that temperatures are dipping, the trout can be a bit more opportunistic around bigger flies. If nothing has been working, try out a large size 16, maybe the fish are looking for a big snack. Go catch some lunkers out on the Fall!
