Fish Report for 10-8-2021

Cascade River salmon seasons to remain open through October 24

10-8-2021
WA Department of Fish & Wildlife Staff

Action:  Opens salmon seasons to seven days per week through Oct. 24.

Location: Cascade River from mouth to Rockport-Cascade Road.

Effective dates and rules:

  • Salmon fishing is open seven days per week through October 24, 2021:

Min. size 12”. Daily limit 4 coho. Release all salmon other than coho.
Anti-snagging rules and night closure in effect.

Species affected:  All species

Reason for action: This area of the Cascade River was closed to avoid gear conflicts with tribal fisheries. Tribal fisheries have concluded in the Cascade so gear conflict avoidance closures are no longer necessary.

The coho return is sufficient to allow for recreational salmon fishing seven days per week through Oct. 24.

Additional information:  Anglers are reminded that the Cascade has a night closure and anti-snagging rule in effect.

The anti-snagging rule definition is:
Except when fishing with a buoyant lure (with no weights added to the line or lure), or trolling from a vessel or floating device, terminal fishing gear is restricted to a lure or bait with one single-point hook. Hooks must measure ¾” or less from point to shank, and must be attached to or below the lure or bait. Weights may not be attached below or less than 12” above the lure or bait.
