San Miguel Island Aboard the Sea Biscuit
8-9-2009
John Thompson
After a weeks delay due to bad weather our charter aboard the SEA BISCUIT out of CAPTAIN HOOKS SPORTFISHING with Capt Bobby Valney at the helm. We had 19 anxious anglers who had to wait an extra week for this trip, as we boarded we were greeted by deckhand Sammy and Chef Howard. After we were all aboard, Capt Bobby came down and gave us our safety briefing and our plans for the next days fishing. After the briefing we raffled some SFR T-Shirts and a Large Plano Tacklebox donated by STRIPER MAFIA.COM out of the Antelope Valley. We woke early at the west end of Santa Rosa Island and were quickly greeted by seals, who really enjoyed our baits and gave a few folks a chance to check their drags. There were no exotics to be found or willing to bite, so Capt Bobby said we were going to head to San Miguel to get some quality rockfish. Although the fishing was really tough, due to so much bait being around we managed to get limits for all. We gott some really nice vermillion and copper rockfish as well as a few whitefish and sheephead and one legal ling. All in all it was a great day on the water with a great group of anglers and awesome crew. If you would like any of these pictures please email me at john@sportfishingreport.com and I will forward them to you.
As a side note, While your out there at the west end of Santa Rosa Island. Should any of you happen to snag a Shimano rod with a Trinidad 12 reel attached, please contact Homan. It's his!!!
