30 pound king salmon Sacramento River

30 pound king salmon hitting the decks on the Sacramento River!
The Fall run on the Sacramento River is peaking now with more large king salmon over 30 pounds being caught than seen in many years. The kings that are average in size like 16 to 20 pounds are coming in for both dogglers and back bouncers pretty easily but the massive 28 to 32 pound salmon are being landed mostly on heavier gear being used by kwikfishermen and some boondogglers this week. "It has not been a red hot bite early but as the river warms the bite heats up" reports Dave Jacob's of Professional Guide Sevice. Jacobs goes on, "I have seen more high 20 pound and low 30 pound class salmon this year than any other year in the last ten and expect to see more this week and even larger into October. We have landed two kings recently 29 and 32 pounds." The Sacramento River flows have dropped and the river currents have slowed with the main vein of king salmon now acclimated to this huge river drop. Fishing slow and methodical will result in that savage strike of a "old style" kwikfish lure with one of our special meat wraps. Salmon season will continue to be best all of September and well into October. The river temps are very cool and the salmon are responding well to all of the clean cold waters of the Sacramento River below Redding California.
