South Lake Fish Report

7-27-2009
Jared Smith

South Lake is officially full! Water is pouring over the spillway and the lake is looking spectacular. The dam and the Gilbert Glacier inlet have the best spots on the lake for both quantity and quality of fish. The big boys are still playing hard to get but lots of full stringers of rainbows to 3lbs 12oz are coming out. Salmon Eggs and Chunky Cheese Gulp! has been producing at the inlets. Drifting crawlers at the dam has also been excellent. Orange Gulp Worms, Brown mini-jigs and size 18 to 20 mosquito patterns have been the best artificials. Greg Madrigal of Garden Grove, CA caught and released an estimated 4lber with a mosquito at the inlet over the weekend. That\'s the biggest fish of the year caught on the fly.

Thankfully the only noticeable burn areas are down by Big Trees and a little bit on the hill above Intake II...... Read More
