Trees got a good drink this week with all the ThunderBoomers rolling thru although the two days of ‘Flash Flood Watches’ turned out to be just a bit of rain for us – no gully washers, but up the road on Hwy 6 in Hammel Valley there were quite a few of those gully washers that took out a few alfalfa fields. Scattered, they called for and they definitely were scattered – raining at Intake 2 and nothing at the Lake!

The catching part of fishing remained fair. Trolling along the rock slide back behind Cookie’s brought in several limits as did fishing the far side of the Lake by the dam (off the back of the dam – down in the spillway creek – up on top of the spillway and off on the Lake side). NightCrawlers along chartreuse PowerBait were also hooking up the Rainbow, but don’t forget the MiceTail and MiniJigs. Chris Wales, Jesse Simon, Chuck Foley, Anna Coomans, Jack Foley and Natalie Coomons used ‘RAT’Tails to catch their dinner. GrandPa Joe Bergschneider taught the grandkids Jamie (8) and Bradley (6) the fine art of fishing. When asked what they caught their fish on they both said ‘a fishing rod’ and when pressed a bit more the answer was ‘Mini-Jigs” with a bit of a prompt from Dad Kevin and Mom Connie. 

Our neighborhood bear returned for another brief visit on Saturday night, Sunday morning. There was also a report of a bear down in the Sabrina Camp – we have found a spotlight and air horn to be the best deterrents for driving the bear away. Parcher’s Resort still has two bears hanging around.

The Lake remains pretty much at the level it was last week – great news – we’re not dropping like we had been!! SCE has decided to NOT drain Intake Two this year, but will wait on completing the project on that spillway and dam.

All the campgrounds in Bishop Creek Canyon are now open. Remember Bishop Park and The Forks have switched over to 100% reservation thru www.recreation.gov. Four Jeffery, also, has reservable campsites and first-come first-serve spots. First-come first-serve campgrounds are: BitterBrush, Big Trees, Willow and Sabrina Camp. North Lake is a dry camp with no potable water and is first-come first-serve. The BIG bear roaming thru Aspendell knocking over the big green trash bins and prying the lids open is still roaming – please store your food properly and DON’T feed the bears or the deer. Also, watch out for your pets, there are three mountain lions roaming the Aspendell area.

Currently, private boats can launch from dirt. No parking down in the Lake bottom.
