San Quintin Sportfishing Fish Report

Sportfishing report from San Quintin, B.C. México Saturday July 18, 2009

We monitored seven charter boats with 21 anglers, from 12 fishing trips. The total fish count was 240; the pelagic fishes were 36 barracudas, 7 bonitos, and 3 yellowtail. Bottom fishes was the major catch 65 red rockcod 36 brown rockcod, 20 scorpionfish, 19 California halibut, 11 boccacios, 11 whitefish, and assorted of lingcod, starry rockcod, greenspotted rockcod, sugar bass, flag rockcod, sheephead, kelp bass, sand bass, and one small thresher shark.

The saturday was sunny and warm with a surface water temperature averaging 61.5 degrees, however the friday July 17th a strong wind was reported by captains and during saturday the swell was present. With swell the fishing was not easy mainly for pelagic fishes, and some boats realized a stop at the mouth of the San Quintin lagoon for a good catch of California halibut.

Jim Jones and Jerry Markar were driving from Los Angeles to San Quintin and were aboard of the Fanny II and Captain Gordo (Garcia`s Pangas),for a good catch of assorted bottom fish mainly reds and with one yellowtail of 22 pounds.

Adrian Sanchez, Jose Morales, Juan Martinez and Diego Benitez, from Tijuana were aboard of the Goyita boat (Tito`s Pangas) with a good catch of barracudas, bonitos, and bottom fishes including a California halibut of 26 pounds by Fernando Benitez.

- Marinero (Tiburon`s Pangas)
- Goyita (Tito`s Pangas)
- Romy (Pedro`s Pangas
- Offshore IV (K&M Offshore)

Many more anglers enjoyed the good fishing and weather at San Quintin, Baja California, including myself.
