Lake Poway Staff
- Madeline DiFabio, San Diego - 10.0 pound Catfish on Mackerel, Boulder Bay.
- Aleksandr Yermakov, San Diego - 27.0 pound stringer of catfish on Mackerel, Boulder Bay.
- Bryan Landhan, San Diego - 8.0 pound Catfish on Mackerel, Log Boom
Big Cats Have Started To Wake Up! The catfish bite is very good with limits in different areas of the Lake; at the Log Boom, on the shorelines and back by Boulder Bay. The bass bite is slowing down due to the extreme hot weather. The bluegill bite is best in Hidden Bay. The water level of the Lake has stabilized and the Lake will remain full all summer.
LAST STOCK: Wednesday, July 15 was 750 pounds of Catfish
NEXT STOCK: Wednesday, July 29 will be 1,500 pounds of Catfish
Hours -During the month of July the gates to Lake Poway will open at 7:00 AM.
Night Fishing - Night Fishing extended one week! There is night fishing on every Friday and Saturday night through August 22, 2009. Fishing in boats until 11:00 PM and fishing on the shoreline until 11:30 PM. The Lake Poway Midnight Catfish Craze is scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2009 from 4:00 PM to Midnight.
Midnight Catfish Craze - The annual Midnight Catfish Craze will be held from 4 PM to 12 AM on Friday night, July 31. Tickets will soon be available at the Lake Poway Grill & Tackle. Tickets are $10 for adults (in addition to your daily permit) and $5 for youths 15 years old and younger (in addition to your daily permit). Motorboat sales will start at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 31 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Fishing starts at 4:00 PM. The Lake will be closed for boating & fishing that Friday from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM to allow our staff to prepare for the event.
T-Shirts -Be the first one in your neighborhood to sport a new Lake Poway T-Shirt. They are forest green and have the following logo on the front. They are available for purchase at the Lake Poway Grill & Tackle.
Fishing Requirements - Adults (anyone 16 years of age and older) require both a California State fishing license and a City of Poway Adult Fishing permit to fish at Lake Poway. Youths between the ages of 8 and 15 years of age only require a Youth Fishing permit. Youths under the age of 8 only require a Youth Fishing permit when their accompanying adult is not fishing. All permits and licenses can be purchased at the Lake Poway Grill & Tackle.
Quagga Mussels -The Quagga mussel is not in Lake Poway. It is known that there are Quagga mussels in other lakes. In order to protect the integrity of the Lake Poway water system the following temporary restrictions are now in effect. Until further notice, the following items are prohibited at Lake Poway:
? Float tubes
? Private motors and anchors
? Live Bait Containers
? Fish Finders
? Floating Catch Baskets
? Live Bait (shiners, crawdads, etc) from any source other than the Lake Poway Concession
? Any other items, determined by Staff, to be potential contaminants
Parking Fee - From now through October 26 there is a $5 parking fee for non-residents of Poway on weekends and holidays. If you are fishing and purchase your adult permit at the Entry Station the parking fee is waived. The Entry Station is now open from 7:00 AM to thirty minutes before sunset on weekends and holidays.
No Smoking at Lake Poway -Smoking is prohibited on Lake Poway, in the park and on the trails. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area that is located on the Northeast side of the Lake Poway Grill & Tackle building.
