Nice mellow weather on the Truckee River
7-22-2021

Nice mellow weather on the Truckee River. Gonna hit 90 this weekend, but it looks to cool right back down again. Low 80’s, I can take, 90’s, I can’t.
Flows have been bumped a bit coming out of Boca. 480 here in the Hirsch. That’s cold water coming out of Boca. Median flows would be 505 cfs, based on historical averages. We’ve been doing real good this summer with plenty of water in the river.
With the cooler weather and cooler overnight lows, water temps have come down. Still fish in the mornings, and carry a thermometer with you. Check the water temps around lunch. Plenty of things to do in Tahoe besides fish in the afternoons. On the Nevada side of the Truckee River, I’d stop fishing about 10. Flows are lower there, and warmer.
Lots of bait in the river. Crayfish everywhere. If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on a mud bug for my anchor fly. Probably best to leave the zebra midges in the box for now. Heavy riffles, pocket water, and heads of runs have the fish.
