Lake Sabrina Fish Report

Lake Sabrina Boat Landing Staff
IT WORKED - the w-i-n-d (not taking any chance on it coming back!) had a few major gusts left in it Sunday night, but we woke Monday to a glassed-off lake. What a sight! The tips of the back mountains highlighted with the early morning sun - the reflections in the still Lake Sabrina waters . . . cool morning temps - Need I go on?
Fishing this week was kinda slow. Those will a bit of patience, a bit of know-how and a bit of luck came out with limits. It may have to do with warm temperatures at the Lake - our high this year has been 78 degrees - remember - it's all relative. As the water gets warmer, the fish head down to cooler waters, so, fish the inlets in the deeper waters with PowerBait and NightCrawlers. If you're using a lure - put some shot on your line to get it down - down - down. Troll flasher and a NightCrawler or try lures with red on them - such as the Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant or the tried and true Super Duper. Also, you may want to get out your lead-core line and give that a try. GET THAT BAIT OR LURE DOWN IN THE COOL WATER. Drifting NightCrawlers or PowerBait in the deeper waters around the rock piles and, off-shore, also give those NightCrawlers and PowerBait a try.
Father and son team, Kevin and Cameron Gropp brought in a couple of fish over 2 pounds - one on a Kastmaster, the other was caught trolling - 2-1/2 and 2-3/4 pounds. Good job, guys! Once again, THANK YOU, SCE for those fish!
The lake is still spilling! Not sure how much longer though. With temperatures in the upper 70s for highs and upper 40s for lows, the snow pack is a-meltin' down. There is a chance for afternoon thunderstorms for the next few days. The cloud-cover yesterday was sure a relief from the sun, but along with thunder-bumpers comes that nasty word again - W-I-N-D! We did have a bit of w-i-n-d Friday afternoon, but by 8:00pm, the lake had once again glassed-off. And with a few scattered clouds still hanging around, the sunset was magnificent - yellow, pink and salmon colors - What a sight!
Not only do we have beautiful colors in our sunsets, the colors in Rick's garden have gotten quite spectacular. Purplish-pink Fireweed and pink Penstemons along with the bright orange of the Oriental Poppies and the Wild Roses with all their pink flowers, not to mention all the different greens in the front garden - what a sight!
The SKEETERS are nastier then ever especially around the shore of the lake and in the back country - Rick calls them our 'Back-Country Protectors'. Haven't had a chance to hear Howard at www.MammothWeather.com so you can try his website or try this website for a pretty good weather guess for the Bishop Creek Canyon area, www.weather.gov, enter ASPENDELL, CALIFORNIA, in the search area and that will give you information about the weather in the small community you pass just before getting to Lake Sabrina.
* * * NEWS FLASH * * * Verizon has removed the payphone out in front of Lake Sabrina Boat Landing. Cardinal Village will be your closest option as not very many cell phone providers work in the area; Bishop Creek Lodge, Parchers Resort and Creekside RV Park are your other choices
With the return of warmer weather the skeeters have returned, so remember the bug juice and COMMIT TO MEMORY, IF YOU PUT ON BUG JUICE, SUN SCREEN OR FOO FOO JUICE, WASH YOUR HANDS! THEN RUB THEM IN WORM GOO, TROUT ATTRACTANT OR POWERBAIT - GET THE OTHER SCENT OFF!
Also, don't forget your sunscreen and dark glasses, the glare on the water is soooo bright, they just might blind your eyeballs. PONCHOS or COATS MAY ALSO BE NEEDED - YOU NEVER KNOW!
ALWAYS PACK A JACKET! ! ! !
You all have a great week and if the stress gets too great, you all know where to come to get some relief! But, remember you don't need to be stressed to come. WE JUST WANT TO SEE YOU SOON!
