TROUT
Trout along the shoreline is tough as they are mostly being found in the cooler, deeper 40-60 ft. water. Going upriver past the bridges and outside the mouth of the dam is productive trolling silver speedy shiners, Macks wiggle hoochie, or a hoochie/ gold hammered dodger combo. Brown trout bite has been fantastic upriver with several 8-15lb. being caught and released for another day. Urban Escape Guide Service has been on the Brown Trout bite landing some beautiful browns up to a estimated 16+ lbs, (broke the scale!)New Melones lake record currently is 13.4 lbs caught by Michale Olivera in 2011. You can call Matt to schedule a trip @ 916-628-8477. No downriggers? Luhr Jensen Deep Six diver will get you to the depth you need to be at. Don Cady and Dan Holly pulled out a nice combo of Trout and Kokanee fishing at a depth of 30-50 ft. near Angels Point using a crawler/apex with a flasher.
Kokanee
With dropping water levels, Kokanee bite is a search mission but anglers are seeing signs of them schooling up. A limit of Kokanee can be had like the ones my old school buddies Bruce Dobin and Rick Hostetler along with Josh and Chris landed while out with HeadHunter Sportsfishing a couple weeks ago. We were looking for the best picture, one with the guys or just the kokanee and decided just the fish presented the best photo of the action they got into. Out in front of the mouth of the dam and slightly out from the spillway have produced the most fish recently although there has been some reports of kokanee being caught up around the Angels Creek area as well. Flutterbugs, hoochies in chartreuse, pink & orange or watermelon have been the hot lure behind a matching dodger.
BASS
Good action using plugs and Whopper Ploppers from River2Sea, underspins, crankbaits or try a Lucky Craft screw pointer, good for suspended or high pressured fish. Morning may be the best time for your topwater presentation switching over to plastic baits later in the day using shakey heads Up river has been producing a good bite along the vertical wall, and on points and near hill tops.
CATFISH
Catfishing is starting to heat up with the warmer weather upon us. Cut baits, chicken livers and night crawlers are choices for baits. Kohout of Angels Camp did a late night fishing adventure on Glory Hole Point and landed this 10.03 cat using liver in 20 ft. of water.
CRAPPIE
Best shot at Crappie is getting into a cove, dropping a light and using crappie jigs or live minnows.
Other News
The Bureau of Reclamation administration office and Visitors Center is now opened and selling annual passes for the lake. Opened from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 7 days a week.

New Melones Fishing Report
New Melones ReservoirTROUT There is an extremely large number of planter trout all over the lake which can be caught from both a boat and off of the bank. Anglers are also bringing a occasional holdover trout and Brown trout over the rail. Many of the trout are becoming more active in the afternoons but there is plenty to be caught throughout the day. A good set up for trolling for the trout right now would be to use Speedy Shiners, Apex's, Rapalas...... Read More
