EAST WALKER RIVER

The flows on the East have been going up and down a little and right now it’s sitting at about 75 cfs. We had several very cool nights this week which has kept the water temperatures in check pretty good so the fish are still happy and healthy, not to mention feisty. Most of the action is still with small midge patterns and caddis nymphs but we have had several good streamer reports as well as dry and dry/dropper reports. It seems best to be on the water early and late in the day as it seems to slow down a bit mid-day when it’s hotter. Some patterns to try: psycho prince, dark lord, rainbow warrior, flashback emerger, silver streak, wd-40, zuddler, sculpzilla, double bunny, dead drift crayfish, chubby chernobyl, madam X, para hopper.

SCEIRINE RANCH

We had some good reports from the Ranch this week, mostly nymph action with dark lords, soft hackles, copper johns and the like. Lots of fish in the 14 to 18 inch range with a few going over 20. Didn’t hear of any streamer action this week but there was some fish caught with dry/dropper rigs like on the California side.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

Trolling still seems to be the best way to go on Bridgeport though there has been some good reports from bait anglers off of Rainbow Point. There’s been a few fish still being caught from the shore though it’s not exactly red hot, the boat anglers are definitely doing better. Trollers are still using Rapalas, crawlers and Thomas Bouyants and bait anglers are using power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers. We also talked to a few fly anglers who caught some fish both stripping streamers and dropping nymphs from an indicator down near the dam. We had reports of rainbows up to 8.5 lbs, browns up to 3.5 lbs and perch up to 2.5 lbs this week.

KIRMAN LAKE

We didn’t hear any news from Kirman yet, hopefully there are still some fish in there leftover from last year but it’s hard to tell. Last year the fishing up there was pretty tough with just a few successful reports coming in for the whole season. Hopefully the DFW will be able to get some fingerling fish in there this year and get the fishery back on track.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins have been producing some good fish this week,  we’ve seen fish up to around 5 or 6 pounds coming out of there. The bait anglers who have been successful have been fishing with pinched crawlers, mice tails and inflated crawlers. Lure anglers have caught some fish with speedy shiners, Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters. Fly anglers have been doing well with sinking lines and leech patterns with soft hackle or zug bug droppers.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We haven’t had very many reports from the West lately but we did just talk to an angler today who had some great luck with Panther Martin spinners, nothing big but lots of fish for him today. It seems like if you do a little hiking to find some of the deeper pools where there are some fish holding they’re hungry. I would guess that in addition to spinners you should be able to get some fish with eggs or crawlers. Fly anglers could try hopper dropper rigs for some good action.

VIRGINIA LAKES

The best reports we’ve had from the Virginias lately have come from the fly anglers, both stripping leech patterns and we’ve had a couple good reports from anglers dropping small nymphs off of indicators. Mice tails are working pretty good for the bait anglers, as well as pinched crawlers and for the lure anglers, they’re doing the best early and late in the day with Kastmasters and Thomas Bouyants.
