Silver Lake Resort Fishing Report 5/30 – 6/6/2021

Happy Summer!!!!   June is here, the weather is changing, schools are getting out and the Eastern Sierra and the June Lake Loop are as beautiful as ever.  May was, as usual, an up and done month when it came to weather with lots of wind, some snow, some rain and an occasional beautiful day mixed in.  Now that June is here in full force, the weather has been perfect, which is starting to bring all the fishermen and women and vacationers out to enjoy the beauty that is Silver Lake and the June Lake Loop.

Fishing on Silver Lake has been up and down with lots of bigger beautiful Rainbows being brought in but still not a lot of stringers.  As we all know, the DFW has not been stocking as much as we would like due to all the issues they have been having with the hatcheries throughout the region.  I will say though, that we did receive two loads of DFW fish the middle of May and we have supplemented that with  four loads of big beautiful Desert Springs Rainbows we have bought and stocked over the past month as well.  Without getting political on why the DFW isn’t stocking, all I can say is that we will be purchasing fish from Oregon to be stocked throughout the entire summer and should be getting a load about every three weeks.  With these fish and the fish that are being stocked through the efforts of our local community, spearheaded by Ernie’s Tackle Shop and Dan’s Guide Service, through donation buckets spread throughout the loop, things should be pretty good throughout the summer.

Anglers have seen some good action on the all time favorites here at Silver Lake and throughout the Eastern Sierras and that is good old fashioned Nightcrawler Worms, Berkley Power Baits with Garlic scent and Thomas Buoyant Gold/Red.  Nothing new on that end!!!  The bugs are starting to hatch and fly around, as I saw my first mosquito yesterday, so if you are a fly fisherman or like to use a fly and a bubble, think about a mosquito, a Elks Hare Caddis or something like a yellow or Red Humpy.  The water is still colder, as both Rush Creek from the high country and Alger Creek are still dumping colder snowmelt water into the lake.  This won’t last much longer, as the upper elevation snow is melting fast and in a few weeks we will be talking about how warm the water is and the need to take your baits deeper in the water.  We honestly have not heard much about Rush Creek, which just opened last weekend under the new regulations, but did see a few nice size come out of Rush.  The bottom line is to just get out there and give it all a try.

Things are continuing to get back to normal around here and we are pushing forward to keep getting back to normal.  We have planned for our Annual Rush Creek Clean Up set for Saturday June 19th, our Annual 4th of July and Labor Day Horseshoe Tournaments are a Go and we will have some live music around the campfire throughout the summer.  Check out our Event Schedule to keep up to date on what we have going on.

Things are Picking Up around here so come on up and enjoy the beauty of The Eastern Sierra and the June Lake Loop!!

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!
