BASS
Bass fishing could not get any better. DVL continues to justify the claims of it is the best largemouth bass fishery in southern California. Anglers have been reporting phenomenal numbers of quality fish on just about every lure and presentation imaginable. Carolina rigged brush hogs in green pumpkin and watermelon, drop shot rigged straight tail plastics in every color from oxblood to morning dawn, shad and baby bass flukes, spooks pointers, sammy's, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and senkos. A few anglers even reported limits by trolling Rapalas on the dams. Locations have varied nearly as much as the baits reported, but the depth range has held between 20 and 35 feet. Dominick Alaniz of Murrieta caught a 7.2 pound bass fishing with a purple Roboworm. Sawn Cooley of Quail Valley released an unbelievable 110 fish at various points around the lake fishing with cool baits. James Mehan of Winchester got his limit trolling a Rapala on the dams. Kevin Deemer of Hemet released 40 fish between 3 and 5 pounds fishing a Carolina rigged green pumpkin baby brush hog on the points. Socalbassman and Bassguy reported a great day with a combined total of 28 bass by 11:00am all caught on the drop shot rig in 20 ??? 30 feet of water. Jesse Dinkins of Hemet released an 18.5 pound limit trolling the west dam with a Rapala.
TROUT
Trout fishing showed slight improvement this week. With boaters catching a handful and shore anglers forced to focus on more reliable species. Shawn K of Westminster caught a 5.44 pound trout fishing on the east dam with a nightcrawler.
STRIPER
Striper fishing has been active this week due to the overcast days. Trolling with zplugs, swim baits, and top water lures have been the choice of anglers. Russ Niever of Temecula caught a 20 pound striper fishing with a swimbait.
CATFISH
The catfish bite has been outstanding with anglers catching massive limits from shore and boats. Anglers have been using mackerel, chicken liver, shrimp, nightcrawlers, and anchovies. Steven Prihisztal of Ontario caught a 10.1 pound catfish using mackerel. Sherry Orndoff caught a 8.96 pound cat fishing with a nightcrawler.
