Snow Melt is Close to Being Down For The Year
5-7-2021
Mountain Hardware & Sports
Looks like snow melt on the Truckee River is pretty close to being done for the year. Expect water clarity to improve in the coming weeks. Indicator and euro nymphing continues to be the best way to catch anything on the Truckee River. Because flows are up, be careful wading in higher water and be sure to use a wading staff if needed. Hatches at this time include March browns, Blue Winged Olives, and light and dark small caddis. Dry fly faves include EC Caddis, Parachute Adams, Small Blue Winged Olive patterns and Cripple March Browns. Large weighted anchor flies are the ticket to get your nymphs to the bottom of the river. These patterns include Tungsten Pats Rubber Legs, Burks Bottom Rollers, Biot Epoxy Stones, Jigged TB 20 Inchers, and small crawdad patterns. Anglers using smaller, dropper flies should try bead head pheasant tails, perdigones, hares ears, and copper john rubber legs.
