Truckee River Report

Shorts to jackets.

That pretty much sums up spring in the mountains Just when you get on a warm streak and have the new patio furniture out, it snows. Suppose to warm back up mid-week, but next weekend could be cold again. We still need any inch of precipitation we can get.

Lots of stuff happening on the Truckee River. Spring is a great time. Flows are good, birds are chirping, deer are prancing, and the bugs are pop’n. Anywhere on the Truckee River you can find fish. From Tahoe City all the way down the line. Flows are great all up and down the river.

I’ll be done floating out East on the lower river real soon. Just gets too hot. Most all of my guiding here on out is wade fishing from here in the Hirsch, into West Reno.

On a side note: Been running into a lot of fellers lately who are surprised to find I fish with such heavy tippet. Streamers, I use climbing rope, (joke), nymphs, I never go below 4x. 6x is too light, and you owe it to the fish to get them in fast. I can land any fish in this river in under a minute or two, sometimes seconds. Rope ‘em in guys.
