San Pablo Reservoir Fishing Report

4-15-2021
San Pablo Reservoir Staff

Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale trolled the reservoir on 4/15/2021, focusing on the southern portion of the lake where we had great Trout fishing last week. This time we hooked up with 6 Rainbow Trout and a nice 2.93 lb. Spotted Bass (pictured here with Al). We kept three Rainbows and released all the other fish. We were trolling Speedy Shiners and Panther Martin Spinners 15-20 feet below the surface. The fish were in 30-40 foot water columns swimming some 20-30 feet below the surface. We had reasonable trolling success until the winds picked up considerably. Water clarity was reasonably good with surface water temperature around 60 degrees. There are a lot of fish in the lake as seen on the sonar unit—-the trick is to use the right lure, troll at the right depth, use proper trolling speed (2.0-2.5 mph), and apply scent to the lures as an enticement to get the fish to strike.

The staff were extremely helpful in getting us on the water, and the boat and motor were ideal for trolling.

All the best, Dr. Al Hurwitz
