South Lake Fish Report

Most shore anglers found a wide open bite during the days leading up to the holiday weekend. When the boat landing opened on Friday, boaters also found a red hot bite at the inlet, the rock slide and the west side of the dam. Things slowed a bit on Saturday but limits were still the norm. The rainbows in the lake are starting to spawn so not surprisingly salmon eggs were working very well. The Gulp Egg/Crawler combo was also working well for bait anglers. Orange, Pink and Yellow Powerworms drifted or jigged accounted for the majority of the fish caught on artificials and was the go-to tactic for big numbers of rainbows. Slow trolling jointed rapalas in Brown Trout or Brook Trout patterns was also working great and accounted for some beautiful Brown Trout to 14" being caught.

The water level at South Lake is coming up extremely fast right now and South Lake staffers are expecting to have the dock in the water and the Pontoon boats on the lake as early as June 7th. It's still too early to tell when the boat launch will be open but it is currently closed to private boats.

Greetings from the high country! We went up the Bishop Creek Canyon today to check things out and shovel a little snow at our resort. There is just patchy snow along the creek below 9000ft...... Read More
