Klamath Winter Steely action is Steady Eddy
2-6-2021
Scott Caldwell
Winter finally showed up in Northern California and Yreka, but it has not hindered the consistent fishing action the Klamath has been providing.
I have been fishing the Klamath steadily since late September and rarely have we not had a double digit day. Back trolling and casting plugs an bait has been the best methods for catching fish but egg an stone patterns under an indicator has also been effective.
Fish size on the Klamath has been consistent with most fish being between 10 and 28 inches. The winter steelhead and trout tend to be a little bigger on average, with most fish being 16 to 28 inches and 1.5 to 8 pounds.
The last couple of trips have consisted of fish in the 16 to 20 inch class, and 1.5 to 3 pounds. These hard fighting chuncky footballs are a blast to catch on light tackle.
Winter Steelhead fishing on the Klamath will continue for the next few months. As always during this time of year we have to watch the weather. Heavy rain, snow or wind can make fishing very difficult.

I am taking bookings (March, April and May) for Shasta Lake, Lake Siskiyou and McCloud Reservoir Brown and Rainbow Trout fishing
