PUERTO MORELOS FISH REPORT - MARINA EL CID, CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA

5-7-2009
Larry Edwards

What is normally considered one of the best fishing months of the year has taken a serious hit and all resulting from the sensationalized flu scare that didn't materialize. Puerto Morelos is no different from the other Mexican Riviera hot spots and the hotel reservations have diminished the busy tourism trade that drives the sportfishing industry. Everything is seriously slow and reflected in our fish report for only 6 outings for the week with all but one short fishing days. Overall counts reflected 1 sailfish, 2 dorado, 4 barracuda, 2 king mackerel, 4 triggerfish and 1 red snapper.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy days and terrific temperatures, ranging from 73 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Most of the days reflected a stable 81 degree temp for the entire area along with tropical surface breezes from calm to 15 knots.

Best Bait/Lure: Continues to be the rigged ballyhoo.
