ECLIPSE: INAUGURAL VOYAGE
4-25-2009
Don Padick
The Eclipse is the newest sportboat to hit the waters out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego. Owner/operators Chris Switzer, Mark Gillette and Rick Podolak have been putting in hours of sweat and tears in the boatyard and slip getting the Eclipse ready for the 2009 fishing season. Their hard work has paid off big time !!!!!. The Eclipse is looking good and the captains and crew are ready to roll for the upcoming season. I was lucky enough to jump on board for the Eclipse's inaugural fishing voyage down the Baja coast this past weekend. The plan was to spend the morning searcing for schooling yellowtail under the birds before dropping down deeper for some of the rockier variety of fish. The sky was sunny and clear but the winds were up, making for tough fishing conditions. Carey Stockton did the boat proud by hooking and landing a yellowtail for the first official fish on the Eclipse. Way to go Carey !!!!! We didn't find anymore surface biters so when leaded up and headed out for the rockfish grounds. The high winds and strong currents made for some ultra fast drifting but we fished hard and hauled up a bunch of nice reds, 10-12 lingcod and a variety of other assorted rockfish for our days effort. Kairi Lewis kept us well feed and Mike Callahan and Sean Fitze manned the stations on deck and helped with all the anglers needs. The Lakers and Ducks game on the new plasma screen made for some pleasant cruising time and is just one of the new additions the boys have added to the boat. Nice !!!! Congratulations is in order for the entire Eclipse crew for a successful maiden voyage. I look forward to joining the Eclipse crew for many exciting fishing adventures in the future. We have several SFR 1.5 day charters scheduled on the Eclipse and I'm sure these are not to be missed. Check SFR for the dates. Check out their website at eclipsesportfishing.com for their current schedule or to book a spot on one of their upcoming trips.
