Today’s Fish Count:  5 Boats • 95 Anglers

3 Barracuda, 4 Lingcod, 4 Sheephead, 368 Ocean Whitefish, 620 assorted Rockfish.

Still stuffed with turkey from the night before, boat crews and fisherman arrived this morning at o-dark-thirty to go get some fish. The dry east winds were blowing but out on the water is was not an issue. Conditions were actually very nice according to a few anglers departing boats this afternoon. While Rockfish and Whitefish are the bulk,  there are other fish making modest contributions to the daily count. Sheephead, Lingcod, and Sculpin are often in the counts but today there was a cameo appearance made by a fish not seen in many moons, the California Barracuda. More common in the spring, it’s still no surprise to see them as the waters cool back down. They seem to prefer water in the low 60’s much like the Seabass. That is why they are often caught at the same time. Not trying to plant thoughts of a late season run, but simply food for thought.
