Lake Jennings Staff
- Stocking: The trout season opener is November 20-22 and 2500 lbs. of rainbow trout will be stocked. This year, trout will be coming from Wrights Rainbows in Idaho. Stockings will be biweekly throughout the season to reach a total of 19,000 lbs. Ten percent of this year's stock will be over 3 pounds! The Bait and Tackle Shop is stocked with Power Bait, Hookup Baits handcrafted jigs, and other trout season essentials.
- What's the catch? Good sized bass were reeled in from Half Moon and Eagle Coves to Sentry Point on shiners and Senkos. Our rangers recommend fishing for bass near the tower buoy line about 15-20 feet down. Bluegill were caught off of the t-dock using wax worms and nightcrawlers. The Bluegill bite started to slow after 8am. The catfish were biting during night fishing this week in Hermit and Cloister Cove. Mackerel and shrimp were doing the trick.
- Trout Fishing Tips: Mini jigs are an all purpose lure, working effectively on trout, bass, crappie, and bluegill. For Lake Jennings, a typical setup for trout is 4 lbs. test with a 1/16 oz. jig. If you have trouble casting such a light jig, attach a bobber 5-6 ft. above the jig. Popular jig colors for trout season are pink, orange, and chartreuse. All purpose colors are pearl and gray.
- Friday Night Fishing: For now, every Friday night from 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. the lake is open for night fishing, boating, and evening picnicking. Remember, full sized lanterns are required after 5:00 p.m. and the lake entrance gate closes at 10:00 p.m.
- As a reminder, there is no fishing off of the boat dock, ramp or boat launch. Please keep yourself and our patrons safe and refrain from fishing in these areas. Thanks!
- The current water temperature is 70 degrees. For an updated weather report in Lakeside this weekend, click HERE.
- Lake Open Thanksgiving Day: Work up an appetite before your feast and create a new family tradition! Take a holiday stroll around the lake or hit the shoreline for some fishing. The lake will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Boat rentals and launches will be available.
- Campground News: Long term campsites are available through March! We have full and partial hookups available and some even have a view of the lake. If you would like to know long term availability or have questions, please call (619) 596-1333.
