Hunting, fishing and wildfire danger
Get the latest updates on access, closures, impacts
With the extreme season in Oregon, hunters and anglers should check ahead about possible closures, restrictions and cancellations. We are updating access conditions as we can in the Recreation Report. However, conditions can change quickly, and in between updates.
To help you find the latest information regarding public access, closures and other wildfire-related issues, we’ve created this webpage on MyODFW.com. Here you’ll find the latest ODFW closures and cancellations, as well as links to land management agencies and their current notices.
Clamming and crabbing reopens to nonresidents Oct. 7
Nonresidents will be able to crab and clam along the entire Oregon coast beginning Oct. 7.
Best bets for weekend fishing
Upcoming rains may put a damper on some fishing this weekend. But once waters clear up and drop back into shape, trout and salmon fishing should be great.
- Right now the best Chinook fishing on the north coast is in the bays, but look for weekend rain to move fish upstream
- High elevation lakes like Hebo, South, Battle, Tahoe, and Lost lake have the best survival rates through the summer, and will be good places to target hold over trout from last spring.
- Early coho returns suggest this could be a banner year for coho fishing on the Clackamas and Sandy rivers.
- If you want to experience a little history, go wild coho fishing on the Grande Ronde River. This is the first coho fishery on the Grande Ronde in 40 years.
- Yellow perch fishing on Tenmile Lake has been excellent this past week
- Cottonwood Meadows Lake is an excellent fall fishery that has just started to produce a lot of rainbow trout for anglers.
