Shogun Report 04/06/09

We had a change of events as far as biting fish are concerned. The forty pound yellowfin tuna went on a tear. Throughout the morning and into the afternoon, it wasn't surprise to look up from the clicky-clak of the staple guns to witness every angler in the process of fishing with a bent rod and some gamester pulling back. There was a forty pound average on the YFT's with some fish falling into seventy pound catagory. Anglers have started relaseing twenty pound yellowtail in hopes of rounding out thier remaining limit numbers with some of the larger thirty to forty pounder swimming around this place. Today, Norman and I were laughing about how other boats word their reports, you see I could have easily stated in the above comments that we had wide open fishing on yellowfin to seventy pounds. That would give the impression that we had landed more than a handful of seventy pounders and may have had fish up to a hunderd(as we all know things tend to get embellished), but in reality we only landed two fish that were that big, with the majority being forty pounds, some were thirty, some were fifty. Anyway, just thought I would share that with you all. The weather is good, although the wind has come up a little bit to fifteen knots.

No real exciting news here. We trolled by a kelp paddy and caught a small yellowtail. Travel day with the weather coming down all the time, although we do have a pretty good size swell we are riding. We will arrive to the rocks at 10:00 tomorrow morning. BigFishHappen, Bruce A. Smith ...... Read More
