In the Zone - McCloud Reservoir

Yesterday, was special day in many ways. I had the opportunity to take my longtime baseball friend Bill Hutchinson and his son Aaron fishing on McCloud Reservoir. Aaron is heading back to college in Kentucky for his senior year and continuinghis quest play baseball the highest level. My own son Conner is heading into his senior year in high school and also wanting to continue to play baseball at the highest level. I see these days becoming more special as our sons are getting older and busier with their own lives. Sad but exciting all at the same time. Mother nature provided our trip with some cloud cover and a light breeze, that kept us cool all morning. We started the day at 55 degrees and those of you that live in and around Siskiyou County and Southern Oregon, all know how hot an sticky it has been lately. Now about the fishing, it was like a light's out fastball. The strike zone was 10 to 30 feet and we pounded that zone all morning with Sep's dodgers and grubs(red flake in the early am then chartreuse the rest of day). Occasionally, we threw the fish a change up, mixing speeds (1.3 mph up to 2.5 mph) and changing the grubs out for Super dupers. When the 9th inning finally arrived, the guys we looked at the score and figured catching and releasing 50 brown an rainbow trout was enough. It was now time to stretch our weary arms and have a cool drink. Looking back at the game of life these family times are the best.
