Took my dad out for his first trip out on Clearlake. Started our morning out at Clearlake bait and tackle getting out last minute tackle before launching at Redbud State Park. Started fishing on the south west side of the lake throwing jigs and a popper. Had our first bite within a few casts on the jig flipping up under docks. Let my dad throw the jig as I continued to throw top water with no success.
Made a few runs on the south west side of the lake with not much success. So we decided to make the run over to the south east side of the lake where we had some better luck. Continued to throw the jig with not great results. Decided to make the switch to throwing drop shot and that changed our bites!  Throwing a 3/16 ounce weight and the X Zone lures finesse swammer. Put together a little bit of a pattern and we’re finding them up tight to shaded brush or on the shaded side of the docks. This was my first time fishing Clearlake during the algae bloom and that is quite the experience! Made things a little different but fun.

We ended our day with roughly 10-11 pounds. Not as good as some of the guys fishing tournaments that weekend but we let them fish through and tried our best to stay out of their way. I think winning weight for the one tournament was just over 27lbs. There was lots of boat traffic as there was at least 3 tournaments that day. At the end of the day my dad and I had a great time fishing.
