Barge Hole report

Barge Hole-Anderson Balls Ferry

The famed August 1st Barge Hole opener begins this morning. Today marks the official opening of the upper Sacramento River from the Red Bluff Diversion Dam upriver to the Deschutes Bridge in Anderson California.  All of the popular canyon salmon fishing holes will be open to salmon fishing now through December 31, 2020. Holes like "Stand Pipe" "Salmon Hole" "Big Rock" "Two Rocks" "Stove Hole" and "Old Mouth" just to name a few. This stretch of Sacramento River is not only "fishy" on opening day but the scenery is fantastic!

The lower Sacramento River below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam continues to fish for king salmon and will build through September with the peak fishing season approaching fast. We will have three boats on different stretch's of the Sacramento River today and will check in this afternoon with an Opening Day update right here.

BARGE HOLE OPENER UPDATE
The Barge Hole opened this morning and wasn't red hot for many but a few had a great day out there.  One guide in particular I will talk about a bit later in this update did incredible!
All three of our Sacramento River salmon fishing families got to land and take home fresh Sacramento River king salmon today with Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service.  With the help from guides Dave Jacobs, Ryan Tripp and Steve Lowery, The Laver's from Sacramento California, The Carapetians from Long Beach California and the LaPlants from Palos Verdes California all landed king salmon on the Sacramento River.
I did get to talk to the head of fish counting at the Department of Fish and Wildlife and there were estimated 50 to 60 boats out on todays opener.  They estimated after checking anglers fishing success that about 60 to100 king salmon were caught today as of 3pm.
I talked about a long time friend and Northern California guide in a report earlier this week, Scott Kenyon.  I mentioned a time on the Sacramento River where "egg wars" were happening in the Barge Hole many seasons ago.  Well today Scott found himself as top salmon fishermen again today in the Barge Hole with and incredible 7 king salmon landed today on his roe!  Congratulations to my good friend and top guide Scott Kenyon!!
We did have one guide boat downriver in Red Bluff California and king salmon were landed back bouncing on our hand cured roe today as well.
Enjoy all of the added photos from todays Sacramento River salmon fishing charters.
