More king salmon on the move up the Sacramento RIver!

With the water flows dropping to undesirable levels over on the Feather River, some made the move over to try their hand at salmon fishing this weekend over on the Sacramento River. Launch ramps at Chico, Corning, Los Molinos and Red Bluff were very popular this weekend.  Boat traffic definitely played factor on fishing success for many this weekend.  Knowing where and when to go fish these spooky weekend salmon was key for success.  Putting on heavy lead and going in after them was the ticket in Red Bluff this weekend.  Not easy to do with beginner anglers but with a little professonal instruction and patience great things happen!

The second week of the Northern California salmon season has come and almost gone. Triple digit heat in the Sacramento Valley did little to detour the efforts of the salmon fishing guides who pushed through this past week. Finding mixed success catching these dime bright king salmon that are hard to pin down and target this early in the season. Decision making being a crucial aspect to the success of anglers fishing the Sacramento River this past week. Salmon fishing wasn't red hot by any means and some anglers did struggled to produce these early season chrome king salmon. The newly arriving king salmon feel very vulnerable in the clear shallow Sacramento River water. After coming out of a much darker deeper Pacific Ocean, where they have spent the past few years. These scared king salmon are skittish to say the least. To make matters worse, the Sacramento River has a water clarity depth of ten feet!  Meaning, if you are sitting in your vessel and look down towards the bottom of the river you would be able to see the river bottom when your fish finder confirms you are at 10 foot. This is actually extremely clear considering the Sacramento Rivers elevated river water flows currently.  And makes for much more difficult fishing conditions for anglers who are targeting these early season kings. These salmon tend to run away from your Kwik fish or Flatfish presentations the second they hit the water.

These Sacramento River king salmon typically are running and hiding in places they are likely to be able to avoid. Like the boat motors and ruckus of the salmon fishermen who show up every morning and make their decent to their favorite fishing hole. This behavior by the early season king salmon is quite indicative of their nature at this time every year. Only the few veteran fishing guides that have seen and are familiar with the salmons skittish nature, are able to produce these top quality king salmon everyday right now for their customers. Proving there is no alternative for experience  when it comes to getting one of these feisty salmon to the net. The reward is well worth the effort once landing a sashimi grade king salmon. Using a veteran salmon fishing guide is a very wise decision when it comes time for you to book a reservation for a fishing trip.

That being said, if getting out and catching a quality Sacramento or Feather River king salmon is something that interests you remember that Professional Guide Service started in 1985 and we have guided thousands of anglers to the best salmon fishing in Northern California and Southern Oregon.
