OPENING DAY ON THE STARDUST

3-1-2009
John Thompson

I had a few folks from Edwards AFB wanting to go fishing and called the STARDUST and reserved some spots for opening day of Rock Fish Season. We arrived at 6am and were greeted by the whole crew, Capt's Jason and Luke, deckies Dane and Sal and Casey in the galley. We ended up leaving the dock with 33 anxious anglers. Capt Jason gave us our safety talk and let us know there would be no live bait today as the bait boat was in for repairs. We also had Field Reporter Bob Semerau from Western Outdoor News aboard, look for his story in next weeks edition. We had a three hour run to our first stop, we put about 30 assorted rock fish and large whitefish in the bags, we did the same for a couple more drifts. Capt jason then told us we were gonna make a 5 mile run to a new spot, and about 15 minutes into the move we came to a screeching halt. He said he just passed a mark that was too good to pass up. As soon as we drooped and got down the rods were all bent, and we were bring up some very nice reds and chuckleheads. It didn't take long to get our limits and start heading home. The weather was HOT and the seas were flat calm. This was the best opening day I've seen in about 5 years, and great people aboard made the trip even better. If your looking for a great 3/4 day trip give the STARDUST at 805-963-3564 and reserve your spot. If you would like any of these pictures you can email me at john@sportfishingreport.com and I'll get them out to you.
