BASS
It was another good week for bass anglers at DVL, but they had to work harder than previous weeks. Drop shot rigged worms, Texas rigged creature baits, Senkos, and swimbaits all caught fish recently. Most reports have bass holding between 10 and 25 feet on the points.
.
TROUT
DVL trout anglers had a phenomenal week. Shore and boat anglers had massive trout and huge limits. Powerbait, nightcrawlers, mini jigs, and Kastmasters all caught rainbows in 5-10 feet of water. Jeremy Hammond of Murrieta got a 6.19 pound trout fishing to the right of the marina with a nightcrawler. Jeremy Campbell of Lakewood caught a 6.14 pound trout fishing near the east dam with a Kastmaster. Roy Leevano caught a 7.58 pound trout fishing from shore with a plastic crawdad. Michael Boochie of Murrieta caught a 6.93 pound trout fishing from shore with nightcrawlers. Matt Thompson and Jack Kashersky of Hemet caught their limits totaling 49.39 pounds fishing with Kastmasters near the inlet. Mark Franco of Temecula caught a 35.3 pound limit with his biggest at 8 pounds fishing with mini jigs near the east dam.
STRIPER
Striper fishing was slow this week, but the trout plant coming this week should improve the bite. Stripers are always on the move, but the most consistent spots have been the inlet tower or the east dam. Anglers have caught striper on swimbaits, either trolling as deep as 50 feet, or throwing into boils.
CATFISH
Winter time is not the best time to fish for cats, but there has been some big fish caught over the past few months. Mackerel, anchovies and shrimp have been the typical baits. Joseph Alvarnto of Riverside caught an 11.13 pound catfish fishing from shore with anchovies.
PANFISH
Pan fishing has been typical for winter conditions, but that is not to say that the opportunity is non existent. Brandon Taylor of Mira Loma caught a 2.76 pound Crappie fishing with a spoon along the east dam.
