The Trout Fitter Staff
Water Conditions: Good
Flows are at 65 cfs as of 6/17
Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Fair-Good
The big news is that the masses of Grasshopper Nymphs (the immature flightless grasshoppers) are starting to molt into adults so the hopper fishing should be taking off soon, other than that we've seen little change. The good news is that the dry fly action is picking up and if you just want action below the bridge is loaded with planters. Lots of wind today but we are suppose to be trending into a more stable summer pattern. The spawning Cutthroats and Rainbows are still scattered throughout the system but soon to be back in the lake. There are fish feeding on the surface but most of them are the little guys. The bigger fish and migratory planters tend to hold in the deeper holes and attractor patterns such as Prince nymphs, San Juan worms and egg patterns are working best.
WARNING! The mosquitos are already out and the dreaded early season slime weed "migration" is on so the further downstream from the Hot Creek confluences the worse it gets.
