Much more news coming from within the system indicating that sometime next week the opportunity for San Diego sport fishing beyond private boats will arrive. I will update this narrative as soon as we have word from the top. Beyond that I can report that Royal Star is ready for prime time following a 24 hour shakedown cruise on Friday. A few of our crewmen, Captain Brian Sims, and I ran all of the mechanical systems. To our satisfaction everything functioned as planned.
While we were at it we dropped a few lines in the water in remembrance of why we chose this profession. For a brief period - a couple of hours, the prior two and a half months of soul consuming anger and frustration melted away. The joy of fishing, the electric thrill of seeing beautiful bluefin flying from the water chasing our baits, the purification of spirit from the simple act of breathing thick, offshore salty air; all of these longed for delights, including a few dandy bluefin for the larder, were the bonus result of our quick shakedown tour.
Identifying a few more details to attend to before the show begins we are again dockside this week watching, waiting, and lending all of our wits and weight to the re-opening effort. Enjoy the archive image of the day courtesy of David Itano.
If you would like to go fishing with us please BOOK ONLINE or call (619) 224-4764 to get in on the action.
