Well Crowley was off to a pretty lame start on Saturday with winds gusting to 40mph. Sunday was much improved with warmer weather with next to no wind all morning. The fish were eager to grab just about anything I hung in front of them, and myself and my friend Greg hooked into a couple dozen fish. Today was about the same this morning, but the passing clouds would slow down the grab for a bit, but then pick back up when the sun came back out. Red was working the best early, but later on Gray was the top producer. Clients did well today, all managing about a dozen fish on the line. The fish were super spunky today, and It's probably got more to do with water temps than anything. Cold water = strong fish. Been seeing most fish in about 19-21ft of water (ugh I know sliding indicators) in Layton Springs, south of Alligator Point and Green Banks.
Dropped my clients off at the dock and went to get some pizza at the Crowley Store before I went back out. Met up with a friend who said he was having a good day as well. I dropped my line in and after about 10 minutes I was hooked into something big. Little did I know it would be the biggest fish I've ever hooked in Crowley in my almost 10 year career. After about 5 minutes I worked the fish to the surface and got a glimpse of what I had on my line. I told my buddy that it looked bigger than anything I had hooked before. Fast forward almost another 5 minutes and the beast is in the net. It was bigger than the measuring tape in my boat which goes up to 25". It was about an inch or two longer putting it in the 26-27" category! I don't normally weigh fish but this one was probably around 10-12lbs.
