Truckee River Fishing Report
6-1-2020
Matt Koles
I guess it’s summer on the Truckee River.
We had some hot weather last week, and now back in the 60’s-70’s. Just perfect fishing weather. Flows are still up, about 1,100 here in the Hirsch, and a bit higher down river. I’m guessing they will come down in about 2 weeks.
You should be thinking green drakes and pale morning duns. If you’re on the river around noon on a good cloudy day, you may get lucky and have a day of your life on top. This is the weather for it. I’m sure we’re more than a week away from seeing any drakes, but pmds, yes. That will get some fish looking up. The big fish like it down and dirty, but they will come up and eat the drakes- about the only time I see big fish rising on the Truckee River.
We’ll see caddis soon. That’s the blue collar bug.
Day in and day out, the nymph rig reigns supreme. Get ‘er down and dirty. Trouts are spread out, even in this high water. The water temps are getting in the 50’s range. They are spread out, but they are close to the banks. Lots of current out there in the middle.
