Shasta Lake fishing report

4-11-2020
Jeff Goodwin

Shasta Lake has been fishing in true spring fashion.  The lake has seen surface temps exceeding 62 degrees this week and I expect to see it climb continuously well into summer.  If we see a big cold snap before May, that could delay the climbing temps, but this is the time of the year when we see gradual increases weekly.  There are bass moving into the shallows so they are staging for thier annual spawn.  Schools of Crappie have been seen up on the Pit and near some of the marinas up the Pit Arm.  The rainbows, Kings, and browns are scattered everywhere.  You'll find them in the coves, on the lakes shorelines, and out in open water.  There will be fish scattered on the surface down to about 30' which is pretty normal this time of the year.  I've been trolling some bigger spoons for the trout when I get out and thats a consistent producer for me.  Side planers have been the best, but I did get into some downrigger bites the past few weeks as well.  The trout are looking really good and so are the Kings.  Tighten up your boot straps guys and gals, its time to get busy fishing on Shasta Lake very soon!
