East Walker River Fishing Report

The Trout Fitter Staff

Flow Rates and Water Conditions

Water Conditions:  Fair

Flows are at 55 cfs as of  3/26

Fishing conditions and Hatches: Fair-Good

We are hearing very few reports because the guides and locals are not getting out much.

It must be getting close to alfalfa season because the river just went up to 69 as of yesterday! OOPS, back down to 51. These flows help but it's still skinny with a water temperature of 42 mid-day. Dry fly action has been picking up for the smaller fish, 10"-16". The midges are pretty much the only bug hatching but there are fish rising in the slower water midday, dry dropper was the most successful with a large dry and Zebra Midge dropper. Now that there's a little more water try nymphing with a midge trailing behind stonefly or mayfly nymph.

Recommended Flies

DRIES:   REALLY big Chernobylly Mousey looking stuff | Mother Shucker #22-24 | Stillborn Midge Black #20-22

NYMPHS: Prince Nymph #12-16| Dead Drift Crayfish #8 | Bottom Roller Psycho #10-12 | Copper Zebra #16-18

STREAMERS: Meat Whistle | Sculpzilla | Hornberg #6-8 | Flashabugger White #6-12 | Just Keep Swimming White Bait #4 |

Playbate Chartreuse #1/0

Guides Hint: Don't be in a hurry to get up there, night time temperatures in the teens are not conducive to early feeding.
