Pyramid Fly Co. Report

Pyramid Fly Co.

Where else in the world would you want to be right now other than in the middle of nowhere surrounded by big mountains painted in brilliant reds and oranges, being accompanied by nothing other than a few fishermen escaping this zombie plague chasing the world’s largest cutthroat trout ?

With the lack of chaos and the abundance of trout that question is easily answered by all of us out here in the Nevada desert.  With a landscape that rivals mars and trout that resemble dinosaurs that answer isn’t left in questions or long.  Recently the tribe stumbled upon a cutthroat in the raceway topping 40”.  A forty inch trout.  Wtf!?  What does that thing weigh?  Are the 8 weight rods we use enough?  Only time will tell as this thriving fishery continues to improve.

In the last week we have seen some banner days!  The fish are in and there is only one way to find out.  After all, you can’t catch these things from the comfort of your couch.  I mean you can, but you’re gonna have to watch it through us.  And what fun is that?  Sure it’s informative.  But are you the one tugging on that monster?  No, I am.  The guy actually fishing.  So come on out!  Join the fun!  These fish aren’t gonna wait for you and neither am I.  It’s go time!

With the fish in they are willing to eat anything presented well.  Did you read that last part of the sentence?  Whether stripped or hung under the bobber.  These fish will eat a well presented fly.  Read that last part again.  Boobies, beetles, buggers, midges and maybe even a fly....wait for it....presented well on the surface may get eaten.  A dry fly?!  Yes, a dry fly.  With the warmer than normal winter weather we have been seeing an abundance of lady bugs and large beetles roaming the bangs and tumbleweeds.  So can you catch fish on dries out here frequently?  No.  But you sure as hell cant if you never try.

This week we have seen plenty of fish in that ten plus range with hundreds in the small slot limit.  But as we all know it’s still fishing.  .  Some days are wide open while others are still just really good fishing.

We had the Smith crew put from Colorado.  These boys are done seasoned fishermen.  But as we all know this lake just takes a few fish.   While the young buck Tanner Smith took highest honors with the numbers game, his old man showed him what experience can offer.  “Frank the Tank”, took the day with this thick female Pilot peak at 13 lbs 7oz.

Instead of being quaratined at home, come join us for some peace, solitude and “The Worlds" Largest Cutthroat Trout” After all, they are virus free
