A Hurricane Bank trip of 13 days aboard Shogun with skipper Norm Kagawa returned to Fisherman's Landing January 22. There were 21 anglers on the boat, and they scored numerous large tuna, with four over 200 pounds.

Mike Inscore of Redondo Beach won first place for a 212-pound yellowfin.

"My best fish," said Mike. "Bruce and Tommy Smith helped me a lot. He made two runs, came back and went down. Then I went to the rail with my rod and fought him up and down."

Mike said he fished a sardine on a 6/0 Mustad circle hook tied to 100-pound Blackwater leader and 130-poundSpectra backing on an Avet 50 reel and a Calstar 7675 H rod. The fight took an hour.

Another hour-long fight by Jim Hartshorn of Arcada won second place for a 209-pounder. It bit a sardine, he said, on a 6/0 ringed Super Mutu. He fished 100-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader on 100-pound blue Izorline and 130-pound unknown Spectra, on a Penn 50 W reel by Cal Sheets and a Calstar six-foot rod.

Roger Allius of Ontario won third place for a 207-pounder.

"He was a nasty fish," said Roger, "with a real bad attitude. He went under the boat, twice around the anchor line and just generally beat the crap out of me."

Roger baited a sardine under a non-helium balloon on a 7/0 ringed Super Mutu hook tied to 100-pound P-Line on a Penn 50 W reel and a five and a half-foot rod.

Bill Gray, on his first long range trip, scored a 203-pound tuna with a sardine on a ringed Super Mutu, with 100-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 130-pound Power Pro Spectra on a Penn 50 W reel and a six-foot unknown rod.
