Eagle Lake Fishing Report

Valerie Aubrey
One of my “kids” Taylor Higgins from Reno, came up to kayak with his “aunt” Val & we whacked em. Taylor has been my little buddy since he was in diapers!! We’ve always had a special bond & great karma. He grew up to be an awesome young man!! Double digit releases for both of us & countless strikes, perfect kayaking day, no mishaps & worked from Christie to Wildcat Pt area. Ran tight & shallow with black and brown flies & once the fly bite settled down we ran lures & rainbow flicker shad, bite back on again. The fish are taking a bunch of different spoons, lures and flies for those of us floating the pond. Orange Jay Fair trolling flies, fiery brown, tui chub minnow. Lures, Thomas Buoyant 1/6oz “gold” & red/gold and red dot frog (1/4oz), red-dog & red magic fish scale/pearl bikini needlefish among them. My absolute best rapala like crank has been 1 1/2” rainbow trout flicker shad (Berkeley). Shore fishing has been awesome using jigs (blk, Brown, burnt orange & olive, crawlers, casting various lures. For the fly fisherman I can’t stress this enough...FISH THE DAMN WATER BEFORE YOU WALK IN IT!!! The rogues have been very close (a few feet from shore) & shallow. My bigger fish coming from 2-4ft of water & as deep as 11ft of water. Mostly on black/red and fiery brown #10/12 wooly buggers & wiggle tails. Tuesday is our last day to fish Eagle Lake until Memorial Day weekend 2020 so come and get it while you can!! Memorable Day!!
