Truckee River Fishing Report-12-17-19

12-17-2019
Matt Koles

Starting off cold this week on the Truckee River.

Last week was pretty warm. Mostly was all rain here in the Hirsch. Temps got into the 40’s, good for the winter trout fishing. Teens this week in the morning. Not all that warm in the afternoon either. Highs in the 20’s. Looks like it will warm later this week? The forest is for a cold and somewhat dry pattern until Christmas though.

We have a good snowpack for mid-December. Not too much low lying snow, but a lot up top, and it’s only December. The Truckee River is in good shape right now. Not high, not low. Flows about 300 here, 400 out East on the lower river in Nevada.

Not much change in the report from last week. In California: Wait until it warms. It it’s only getting into the upper 20’s, may be best to skip the river. Seems that trouts are just too lethargic in that cold water. When it gets into the 30′-40’s. (air temp) give it a go.

Your best bet this week will be the Nevada side. It will be warmer out East on the lower river.
