Eagle Lake Fishing Report (Fall Wrap Up)

12-13-2019
Big Daddy

Fall has always been prime time to fish Eagle Lake and 2019 was no exception. This year we saw another nice little bump in the water level thanks to a good showing from last winter, a trend we hope continues. During the fall season at Eagle Lake we offer both fly trolling as well as fly fishing trips, and while the bite was solid from the boat with the trolling flies, the final weeks on out 2019 season were all about "flea flickin" from the shore. This fall brought us an extended period of nice weather, actually not ideal for fishing the shallows in the fall. This fall, "battling the weather", in many cases, meant tricking wary trout into grabbing our offerings under dead flat calm conditions. Mini celebrations would erupt when a chop would come over the surface of the lake. The quality of these fish is really something to see, bright, clean and healthy with beautiful colors and markings and big tails. (See pictures below)

Winter is now here in northeastern California and Eagle Lake has already been receiving some of the precipitation that recent storms have delivered. Good news? Yes, but fingers crossed the lake and surrounding watershed will continue to get rain and snow through out the coming months. The fishing season is still open until December 31, however we are done running trips at Eagle for this season. The dock at the Eagle Lake Marina has been pulled, limiting launching options. That said there may be a secret "fly mission" in the works, stay tuned for details. Want to get in on this exciting action? We are currently taking bookings for Eagle Lake fall 2020 trips, don't miss your chance, book as early as possible to secure your dates. We look forward to seeing you on the water.
