Brian Kiyohara docked American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing December 20 following a ten-day Tiburon charter with 24 anglers.

"Everybody aboard had one over 100 pounds," said Brian, when an angler walked up to say it had been his best rip ever.

Craig Corneal won first place for a 245-pound yellowfin he got with a sardine on a 6/0 Eagle Claw hook. He said he used 100-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 100-pound Line One Spectra on a Penn 30 W reel by Cal Sheets and a Calstar 765 H rod by Kenny's in Upland. He pulled that baby in after 20 minutes.

Clyde Wickham of Carlsbad won second place for a 224.5-pounder. Clyde caught it with a sardine on a 7/0 ringed Super Mutu hook tied to 130-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 130-pound Izorline Spectra. He used a Tiagra 30 reel and a Seeker 6460 XXH rod.

Eric Binz of Palos Verdes took third place for a 208-pounder. He used a boat rod.

Bruce Wheeler used the kite and a boat rod to bag a 238-pounder on the double sardine.

Rikk Lea of Vista used the boat's kite rig to get a 233-pounder on the double sardine.

Randy Corneal of Claremont (Craig's dad) found a 208-pounder on his 7/0 Mutu hook. He used 100-poundSuffix fluorocarbon and 130-pound Line One Spectra on a Penn 30 N by Cal Sheets and a 765 M rod to haul his cow to the boat in 20 minutes.

Mike Papayans of Palos Verdes had a 204-pounder that mistook a rubber flying fish under a balloon for something good to eat. That fight went for an hour. The hook was an 11/0 Mustad 7691, he said, and it was on 130-pound Izorline and 130-pound Spectra backing on a Penn 50 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6465 XXH rod.
