Another worthy day in the local offshore zone featuring what I fondly refer to as a classic “PQ Plunker”. Working from the playbook of my first real mentor/fishing legend Eddie McEwen Sr. we opted to extend the drift on our second school of the morning hanging tough during a few lulls and slow periods. Sure enough, as we drifted along picking an occasional nice bluefin, a school of yellowfin joined the party. A super bonus, jumbo 103 pound Opah got in on the act too.

By the five o’clock hour however the party came to an end. The real bewitching hour fast approaching we got on the move heading west in search of a final hit to end the day on a high note. A couple of false starts tripped us up before one last move as the sun dipped below the horizon finally produced the goods. Again a stunningly massive mega school of bluefin produced a few more shots at one hundred pound plus class dandies before another ravenous spot of yellowfin mounted an ambush. The perfect ending note we closed out the day in full production mode stacking them up on the back deck. Yes sir. There is nothing better than working hard and reaping the rewards.

Freighting a beautiful catch of quality bluefin and yellowfin in the RSW tanks we are in perfect position now to work south looking for a few shots or more at quality yellowtail. That will be the objective for the next couple of days in God’s country. Photo today features the original Humboldt Fishin’ Lumberjack legend Craig Heberer with his beautiful, 100 pound class Pacific Bluefin Tuna.
